Meet Meagan
Meagan has been a practicing speech-language pathologist since 2007 in a variety of pediatric settings including early intervention, private practice, and public schools in elementary and preschool. She has been working with autistic individuals since her undergraduate program in special education. Meagan received her undergraduate degree in special education from Birmingham-Southern College. She went on to receive her master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Virginia.
Meagan is a life-long learner—always looking to learn more to help her clients succeed. Meagan is trained in Natural Language Acquisition (gestalt language processing). She has also completed extensive continuing education on child-led play-based speech and language therapy as play has always been one of her passions. She has received four ASHA Award for Continuing Education (ACE) for completing continuing education.
Meagan feels strongly that families should be involved in therapy process as a child is with their family and caregivers most of his/her life so in order to make progress the family and caregivers must feel confident in helping their child succeed. As a parent herself whose child has received various therapies in the past, Meagan also realized that it is unrealistic to expect families to be able to complete extensive “homework.” She feels home activities must be functional and easy to fit into already busy lives.
Meagan values forming a long-lasting relationship with clients and their families. It brings her great joy to stay in touch with clients who no longer need services and see their accomplishments as they grow up.
Meagan incorporates a child’s interests and favorites into sessions and activities from letters and numbers to sensory tubes to marble runs—whatever brings the child joy. She enjoys creating scavenger hunts and sensory activities for her clients. She feels movement and sensory activities are important.
Meagan has always enjoyed creating materials for her clients. In May of 2020, she opened a store on Teachers Pay Teachers and began selling a variety of resources for preschool-aged children. It brings her great joy to create a resource to meet one of her client’s needs.
In her spare time, Meagan enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and daughter.
